Come join our growing team in an active Residential Program volunteer position! Our Retreat Center Kitchen is seeking a candidate that has a passion for infusing love, nourishment, and variety into our daily offerings of breakfast, lunch, and dinner. At the Himalayan Institute, the heart of our operation begins with the meals we provide guests and residents–truly supporting the entire organization. The ideal candidate would be responsible for working with the kitchen manager to prepare buffet style large scale dishes as well as special events. This dynamic individual can easily manage a busy environment and juggle multiple demands. The ideal candidate is someone who is friendly and cheerful, enjoys helping people, is highly organized, has the ability to multi-task and be flexible, and is a great team player.
Volunteer Responsibilities:
This position is primarily responsible for cooking, baking and prepping, potentially sourcing ingredients, and fulfilling orders as they are scheduled.
- Culinary School Graduate or completion of certificate program desired
- Cook, bake, recipe test, and food product development
- Experience baking for special dietary needs, i.e. gluten-free and vegan
- Practice creativity, efficiency, and responsibility in the kitchen
- Complete appropriate food safety certifications
