Who is Prajapati?

We often wonder about our source. Who sets the stage for our birth? Who arranges our destiny? Who trains our brain to think linearly? Who fills our hearts with the passion for life? Who motivates us to ensure that our children and loved ones thrive?

The scriptures tell us it is Prajapati, the lord of all those ever born. Prajapati is the force that supports and nourishes our existence. She is the heart and soul of our soil, water, air, vegetation, and the entire food chain of which we are a part. We exist only because there is a giver of life—Prajapati. Discovering and further strengthening our connection with Prajapati and distilling his essence for higher good is Prajapati Yaga.

About Prajapati Yaga

Prajapati Yaga is an advanced 16-day tantric group practice, anchored in the practice of Prajapati Sukta and the eleventh mantra of Sri Sukta. This practice of Prajapati Yaga shakes off our inertia and sets the life force in motion, triggering a cascade of effects in our inner and outer worlds. It makes us keenly aware of our natural world. In response, the natural world wakes up to meet the needs of the life force. Our attitude toward the natural world and its inhabitants changes. We become more sensitive to the entire food chain and the life force supporting it.

Integral to the practice of Prajapati Yaga are a profound group of 178 mantras, which for the ease of modern students we characterize as supportive mantras. These supportive mantras are used to transport and deliver the power of Prajapati Sukta precisely to 178 nodal points in the tapestry of life. It is thrilling to experience how the practice of Prajapati Yaga, expressed through the Prajapati Sukta and this cluster of 178 mantras, aligns so perfectly with the practice of Sri Sukta, particularly its eleventh mantra.

Your practice will be further enriched through the accompanying study track—Reversing the Wheel of Karma: A Conscious Choice. The knowledge it shares will enable you to understand how practices like Prajapati Yaga amend our past actions, give a desirable shape to our present, and ensure a bright future.

Participating in Prajapati Yaga in the sacred space of the Sri Vidya Shrine in Khajuraho, and in the company of highly motivated aspirants is deeply rewarding. Join this rare event and allow the shakti of our practice to calm the fear and confusion that hover over the world today.

The Practice

The practice of Prajapati Yaga centers around the recitation of the Prajapati Sukta, a cluster of 10 mantras from the Rg Veda, as well as the prayoga (special japa application) of the 11th mantra of the Sri Sukta. Prajapati Yaga is appropriate for committed Sri Sukta practitioners of all levels, who have fulfilled the noted pre-requisites.

Core elements of the practice include:

  • Daily prayoga japa of Sri Sukta mantra #11 with tritari for 15 days. Three malas will be done as silent group meditation, and five malas will be done as personal meditation.
  • Daily havan, including an opening practice, during the 15-day main practice, and a concluding havan with Vasudhara offering.

NOTE: All participants of Prajapati Yaga will be required to complete a 132-day foundational prayoga mantra japa practice of Sri Sukta #11 before coming to Prajapati Yaga. Further details of this practice will be shared during the Prajapati Sukta course, or individually after you register for Prajapati Yaga

Preparation

As an advanced group practice, Prajapati Yaga inspires us to be well prepared, so we may be of the greatest support to the group practice, and able to receive and assimilate its benefits.

  • Complete your 132-day preparatory practice of the Sri Sukta mantra #11 prayoga japa before you arrive at Khajuraho.

Reversing the Wheel of Karma: A Conscious Choice

Questions pertaining to karma, destiny, rebirth, and freedom of choice are ingrained in our psyche. And yet few of us recognize the gravity of these questions and even that only when we are struck by misfortunes and calamities, such as the loss of loved ones, poor health, repeated failures, or an unjust punishment. The ancient masters took these questions seriously and invested their mental and spiritual resources discovering the cause and cure for those misfortunes that wreak havoc in our lives. As the sages tell us, recognizing the urgency of discovering the cause and cure of these misfortunes is an act of wisdom. Ignoring it is an invitation to perpetual misery.

In this program, we will study the dynamics of karma, its role in the formation of our destiny, personal karma versus group karma, and the conditions under which our personal actions unfailingly influence collective consciousness. The karmic factors that determine how long we live and the factors that trigger intractable health conditions are some of the important points we will cover. The heart of this study, however, is the dynamics of apurva. Apurva is an exciting concept. According to the ancient masters, it forms the backbone of yoga, tantra, kundalini, yantra, mantra, mandala, and any other form of spiritual practice.

Apurva means “that which did not exist before but comes to exist as a result of our laser-focused, highly potent, actions”. The powerful karmic fruits of apurva attenuate and eventually nullify the fruits of other karmas, including those that caused the formation of our destiny. With apurva as its central theme, this program explores how to take charge of our destiny, how to get out of old ruts, how to transform ourselves and the world around us, and how to recall our self-published books of complaints from the shelves of our own minds.

Reversing the Wheel of Karma: A Conscious Choice is practical, free of academic intricacies, and fitted with the tools we need in our on-going spiritual quest. Drawing as it does from acclaimed texts, such as the Yoga Sutra, Lotus Sutra, Shiva Sutra, and select Dharma Sutras, this course presents the gist of spiritual wisdom for carrying our inner quest without encountering many obstacles.

Our Collective Experience

At the cornerstone of this retreat is a shared group experience—practicing together, sharing meals, participating in daily rhythms, and, for many, living in shared spaces on campus. This kind of collective immersion is deeply supportive of Vishoka Meditation, inviting us to bring clarity, steadiness, and presence not only to formal practice, but to the way we relate with one another throughout the day.

Living and learning in community offers a meaningful opportunity to extend our yoga practice into lived experience. It encourages openness, mutual respect, and a spirit of goodwill, allowing each participant to contribute to an atmosphere of quiet support and shared purpose. When we arrive with generosity of heart and a willingness to meet one another with patience and care, the community itself becomes a powerful support for inner clarity and deepened personal practice.

Frequently Asked Questions

About the Prajapati Yaga practice

As an advanced group practice, Prajapati Yaga inspires us to be well prepared, so we may be of the greatest support to the group practice, and able to receive and assimilate its benefits. This program has several firm prerequisites in addition to having learned Sri Sukta.

Prerequisites

Required:

  • Complete the Sri Sukta Course (any offering)
  • Regular practice of Sri Sukta
  • Complete the Prajapati Sukta course (coming in July of 2026 either online or in-person as part of Maha Sri Yaga Honesdale)
  • 132-day foundational prayoga mantra japa practice of Sri Sukta mantra #11

Recommended:

Maha Sri Yaga was a large-scale group practice based on the Sri Sukta, designed to restore the vibrancy and resilience of humanity and the natural world. Prajapati Yaga is highly synergistic with the intention of Maha Sri Yaga, and builds on its momentum. Maha Sri Yaga awakens us to the deeper potential of Sri—inner awakening, abundance, and the capacity to see the world through the eyes of beauty and joy. Prajapati Yaga invites us to invest this gift to discover our creator, the source of life known as Prajapati, and serve her creation by distilling her essence for the higher good. This is living our dharma, for our sake and for the benefit of future generations.

Prajapati Yaga draws on the potential of the Sri Sukta in a more specific manner than Maha Sri Yaga. The foundation of the Maha Sri Yaga was group recitation and havan based on all 16 mantras of the Sri Sukta. The Prajapati Sukta is based on a specific application (prayoga) of the Sri Sukta mantra #11, with daily group practice and personal practice of silent mantra japa, in addition to daily havan.

About Khajuraho and Logistics

During your 19-day session at least one optional group town trip will be scheduled. You will therefore have an opportunity during your stay on campus to visit the town of Khajuraho, its temples and other sites. To maintain the integrity and potency of the practice as well as the immersive, meditative atmosphere on campus, we request that you limit trips to town to a bare minimum. If needed, participants may (at participant’s expense) book a private taxi to go into town during scheduled free-time. Our HI Khajuraho staff can assist with making private transportation arrangements. The transit time for going to town is about 30 minutes from the HI Khajuraho campus.

It may be possible to extend your stay in Khajuraho before or after your scheduled session dates, contingent upon availability of space and prior approval. The rate in effect at the time of request for a pre-approved extension is payable in advance in U.S. dollars, or charged to your credit card in U.S. dollars. Additional travel or other expenses resulting from an extended stay in Khajuraho are to be borne solely by the participant, including private airport transfers to/from the Khajuraho Airport, etc.

Yes. A limited number of private (single occupancy) rooms are available.

An HI Khajuraho representative will meet you at the Khajuraho Airport for transfer to the campus on the group’s scheduled arrival date. Organized group transfers to/from the Khajuraho Airport and the HI Khajuraho campus are available for those participating in an HI-hosted program there—subject to arriving on the specified group arrival date and at the specified group arrival time(s)*. Group transfers are included in your program costs.

*Note: Transfers outside the scheduled main group pick-up from the Khajuraho Airport at the designated date & time are not included in the cost of the program.
