Lauren Schlenger
Lauren recently earned her master’s degree in art therapy from The George Washington University. She is spending this summer working with patients and their families at Children's National Hospital in Washington, DC through art therapy. Lauren has had the privilege of working with a wide variety of individuals, including adults in a clinical psychiatric setting and children in a Washington, DC public school. In these settings, she has provided art therapy services to promote insight and self-awareness, build coping skills, and support personal treatment goals. As an artist, Lauren understands the innate calming and therapeutic benefits creating art can provide. As an art therapist, Lauren aims to provide a safe environment for reflection, expression, and connection, with a focus on accessing personal strengths and building self-compassion. No art experience is necessary to participate!
Prior to pursuing art therapy, Lauren helped bring art to her community through a nonprofit art education and art therapy organization. When making her own art, Lauren primarily uses paint and photography, with a focus on slowing down to appreciate small moments. She lives outside Washington, DC and also enjoys yoga and cooking.
