Terry Schoonmaker

  • Honesdale

Terry did not know yoga until she was 43 and had hip surgery. After she moved her family from New York to Florida and found yoga at the YMCA, Terry learned Integral Yoga and stayed with a consistent practice for six years.

After meeting the owners of the first yoga studio in Hernando County, Florida, House of Light Yoga, she earned her first 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training Certification in 2011 and taught classes and workshops there from 2011-2017. In 2016 Terry earned her second 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training Certification upon completing a one-month-long immersion in Costa Rica. She returned to Costa Rica to assist the lead trainer for the same 200-Hour program in 2018. Upon returning to Florida, Terry was the lead trainer for another yoga school and graduated eight students with an RYT-200 Hour Certification.

In 2019 Terry began the first of three 10-day modules for her 300-Hour Advanced Yoga Teacher Training at the Himalayan Institute. There she fell in love with everything about the Himalayan Tradition and, in 2021, made a bold move, applying for the residential program at HI. She made a commitment to live, work, and study on-campus in Honesdale, PA, for a year:

“I have never been more loved and cared for...”

Terry completed her HI, 300-Hour Yoga Teacher Training with an E-RYT-500 in March 2022. HI has become her home, her sacred space. The Himalayan Tradition has become part of her lifestyle, a source of her teachings, and her sorrowless joy *VISHOKA.
